The offshore wind farm Global Tech I is located approximately 90 km northwest of the island of Borkum in the German North Sea. With a total installed capacity of 400 MW, it is one of Germany’s high-performance offshore wind farms. The wind farm consists of 80 Areva Multibrid M5000 wind turbines, each with a capacity of 5 MW. The foundation structure is a tripod design, installed at water depths of 39 to 41 meters. The wind farm was officially commissioned on September 2, 2015.
As part of the Global Tech I project, OWT/JBO provided the structural verification in accordance with the BSH Standard Design / Design Basis for the support structure. The engineering services focused on load calculations in coordination with the turbine manufacturer to ensure compliance with the technical specifications.
