Launch of the OptiMP Project: Making Offshore Wind Energy More Efficient and Sustainable!

We’re proud to be part of the new research initiative OptiMP, led by the Federal Institute for Materials Research and Testing (Bundesanstalt für Materialforschung und -prüfung). The goal: extend the lifetime of monopiles while reducing material and energy consumption.

🔍 Why does this matter?
Monopiles – the foundations of offshore wind turbines – can weigh more than 2,000 tons of steel and currently last a maximum of 30 years. OptiMP aims to change that:
✔ Up to 10% less steel
✔ Up to 30% longer service life
✔ Optimized design, manufacturing, and corrosion protection

Together with strong partners like Fraunhofer IGP, Leibniz University Hannover, Grillo Zinc Metals, Vattenfall, and others, we’re working to make offshore wind expansion more sustainable and cost-effective.

The project is funded by the BMWE under the 8th Energy Research Program.

Happy Easter

Easter is a good opportunity to pause for a moment. At JBO Engineering Group, we work every day on offshore wind and complex structures – today can be a little calmer. We wish our clients, partners and colleagues a relaxing Easter break.
