Sea ice is not gone from the southern Baltic Sea as many have thought in the recent years. The strong 2025/2026 winter season shows that multiple offshore wind farm locations can actually be affected by sea ice, as can be seen on daily-published FMI ice charts in comparison with maps of the existing and planed OWFs. This means that ice engineering is an important aspect in the design of offshore wind turbines.
The JBO team has a multi-year experience and proven track record in the design of monopiles and jacket structures against sea ice in the Baltic Sea.
